"If We Can't Win by Following the Rules, We'll Change the Rules!!!"
From the controversial redistricting in Texas to the threatened removal of the filibuster (and the probable election fraud perpetrated in both 2000 and 2004), it's become clear that when Republicans on the national level can't get the result they want by following the rules, they have no qualms about changing the rules.
Now, they're at it again. Bill Frist stated publicly on friday that if the Senate Intelligence Committee moves forward with the intention to examine and hold hearings regarding Bushy's warrantless spy program, he will blow up the composition of the committee and fill it with Republicans.
Link and discussion here from Democratic Underground.
I don't think it can be any more obvious why those unwilling to play by the rules need to be kicked out of office. More often than not these days, those people are Republicans.

What is democracy if not changing the rules?????
Seriously, how sophmoric can you be?
So, you support the legislative process being whatever's convenient at the time??
That's sad, but it's what this country is coming to.
Willis -
Do you know what the process is?
The Majority party gets to set committee ratios - i.e. how many Dems how many Repubs. get to be on the Committee.
That what Frist did - and he made the intelligence committee have a smaller gap than the regular comittees because he thought Dems wouldn't be partisan and would take their intelligience cmte roll seriously.
On EVERY OTHER COMMITTEE the senior Democrat is called the Ranking Minority Member, on Senate Intelligence he was allowed to be called Vice Chairman.
What this country is coming to is that when an elected leader makes a gesture to the opposition based on the assumption that the opposition is a principled actor, ... said official gets screwed for short term political gain.
Willis, seriously, stop embarassing yourself and take down this blog and go back to class or whereever it is you are supposed to be.
Behan-
So investigating a potentially lawbreaking activity by the president is "partisan"??
I guess I can see how it feels that way, being a member of the party of lawbreakers. But following the law certainly shouldn't be a partisan idea.
It's a shame that it is.
